Finally we got to play our old pals and ex-Fylde Coast Vets players Stuart Todd, Vito Cinardi, Paul Smith, Carl Hughes, Damo Dinsmore, Gaz Jakins, Lee Rogers, Alan Varley et al.
Fylde Coast Vets Squad:
Keeper Jordan, Adi Barker, Rob Gardner, Michael Swift, Scott Buchanan, Polish Bart, Polish Greg, Phil Dilworth, Daz Elwell, Martyn Avery, Steve Hughes, Chris Giles
A tidy start by Braveheart’s XI looked ominous for the Vets but it was our ageing centre forward Martin Avery who opened the scoring. Picking up the ball on the left wing, he cut inside and curled the ball over the despairing Alan Varley for 0-1.
A hungover Steve Hughes added a second and even with Polish Bart’s glaring miss from 2 yards, the Vets were 4-0 up at the break.
Star defender and Everton season-ticket-holder Adi Barker had to leave at half time for a meet with the Chelsea firm. Braveheart’s XI took advantage and besieged the Vets end. Dilworth, Hughes, Gardner and Swift in particular were all feeling the effects of a heavy Saturday night watching the boxing.
A fifth goal came from Polish Bart and then Damo Dinsmore scored for the opposition at the far post. Handball claims were waved away by the ref.
No comeback though as a sixth was scored for the Vets.
