The first league match of 2015-16 for the Vets as they took on FC Albion at Boundary Park on Sunday 23rd August, kick off 11am.
VETS SQUAD: Andrew Pritchard, Keith Hulme, Dan Bradley, Lee Scammell, Adi Barker, Kev Wright, Dan Whiteside, Chris Tominey, Daz Baker, Gary McAspurren, Josh Brown, Ash Adams, Mick Hughes, Scott Buchanan, Stu Wayman, Danny Horner
The worst possible start by any team as Vets went 2-0 down within the first minute. Worse followed as FC Albion added a third on 5 minutes. With heads shaking manager Scotty did a quick positional shift around.
On 30 minutes right midfielder Kev Wright scored a contender for goal of the season. A neat through ball by Gary McAspurren saw Kev hit the ball first time from 35 yards. No chance for Albion keeper Daz Clarke.
Into the second half and the Vets pulled another back as old poacher Stuart Wayman bagged.
A third was looking likely. A Josh Brown strike from the edge of the area was parried by Clarke and Stu Wayman pounced to score for 3-3. Inexplicably the Albion linesman’s flag was up an the goal was ruled out. A strange decision, considering Wayman had run past 2 Albion defenders to get to the ball. That’s Sunday League for you.
